If you haven’t heard by now, here it is… GABF award winner and Port Brewing’s (@lostabbey) celebrity brewer, Jeff Bagby, is leaving Port Brewing to start his own brewery. In celebration of such a momentousness occasion, the infamous Toronado (@toronado) will be replacing all of their taps (60) with his Port Brewing beers. Taking place on New Years Eve.
If I wasn’t frequenting the Lagunitas event in Big Sur I’d be over at the Toronado consuming these great beers.
Congrats Jeff on your new adventure.
#craftbeer. “The sweet nectar of Pliny the Elder and the aural assault of Tool at the Toronado. Bliss!”
Go Beer!!!
Last night, after a long day of meetings, I cracked open one of these lil’ buggas. Wow, what a fricking great beer! I’m such a fan of the Lagunitas lineup. I think it was last year when the Lagunitas crew rolled into Toronado and had one of their “cellar” tastings. By golly, they pulled out all the stops with 3-5 vintage bottles of their lineup as well as a limited edition release. So, needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I happened upon this limited release in the beer aisle.
Ok, here’s where I’m gonna get all beer nerdy…
Nose and pour: After I popped the cap on the ‘A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ ale, there was a pleasant aroma of hops and fresh cut grass. I poured this luxurious (yeah, I said “luxurious”) liquid into one of my favorite pint glass and noticed two things: a creamy head and a beautiful malted body color.
Palate and finish: The first sip had a slight rush of hops coupled with a smidget of caramel and an essence of biscuit. There was a pleasant lingering finish and a well-rounded mix of hops to boot.
Measuring in at 7.7% ABV, there leaves plenty of headroom for consuming more than two without getting all loopy. I have to say, this will probably garnish a place in my top list of beers as the ‘A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ ale is truly an exceptional summer session beer.
Now, if I just had a lawn to mow…
